Inspiration
The driving force behind this portfolio was my desire to showcase the breadth of my skills and the diversity of my projects. As a student of both Computer Science and Economics, I'm fascinated by the intersection of technology and practical application in everyday life.
What it does
This website serves as a central hub for my professional and academic projects. It features detailed descriptions of my work, including a real-time wildfire detection system, game developments, and utility applications. Each project demonstrates a unique aspect of software engineering and problem-solving.
How we built it
We utilized a variety of technologies across these projects. For the server systems, MQTT and WebSocket communications were implemented for real-time updates. HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript were staples in the front-end development, supplemented with libraries like D3.js for data visualization and p5.js for interactive gaming.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was integrating various APIs and technologies to work seamlessly. Especially for the wildfire detection project, synchronizing real-time data with user geolocation and mapping was complex. We also faced hurdles in optimizing the mobile responsiveness of the games.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Securing 2nd Place at HackMIT for our wildfire detection system was a standout achievement. Additionally, developing a visualizer for organizational relationships and creating a betting simulator that challenges conventional gambling strategies are high points that demonstrate the versatility and impact of my work.
What we learned
Through these projects, I've gained profound insights into data handling, user interface design, and the critical importance of testing and feedback in development. Each project refined my skills in coding, design, and project management.
What's next for Eric Ly's Portfolio/Personal Website
Looking ahead, I plan to continue expanding my portfolio with more diverse projects. Enhancements to the site will include interactive elements to engage visitors more deeply with the project content and integration of a blog to share insights and experiences from my software development journey.
