Inspiration

Occupational ergonomics and workplace health compliance are traditionally expensive, manual, and reactive. Small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and high-risk logistics operations often lack access to certified ergonomists and safety officers, leading to high rates of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), lost work hours, and severe regulatory non-compliance penalties. Our inspiration was simple: What if every worker, warehouse operator, and remote employee had access to an expert AI ergonomist in their pocket? We built ErgoSafe Reborn V3 to democratize enterprise-grade ergonomics, converting complex corporate ergonomics standards into an accessible, real-time, AI-native SaaS platform.

What it does

ErgoSafe Reborn V3 is an integrated, end-to-end ergonomics management platform that combines autonomous AI posture monitoring with seamless commercial business operations: Nelly AI Engine: Powered by Google Gemini, Nelly provides real-time posture risk evaluation, physical hazard detection, and proactive micro-break prompts. Multilingual Accent & Voice Synthesis: Nelly natively supports 7 languages (English, isiZulu, isiXhosa, KiSwahili, Mandarin, German, and Sesotho), using dynamic speech synthesis to deliver audio safety guidance to culturally diverse workforces. Automated Commercial Invoicing: A built-in commercial billing engine that auto-calculates workstation rates, line-item pricing, and exact South African VAT (15%), complete with direct PDF export capability for corporate billing. OHS Telemetry Suite: Includes HR Compliance Dashboards, Daily Workstation Risk Checklists, Professional Ergonomics Training Certification modules, and Shift Fatigue Telemetry.

How we built it

rontend Architecture: Built with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS using Vite for optimized performance and lightning-fast state updates. Deployment & CI/CD: Continuous deployment hosted on Vercel (ergo-safe-reborn.vercel.app) with automated Playwright End-to-End (E2E) testing pipelines ensuring zero layout clipping or UI bugs. AI & Voice Integration: Google Gemini API handles real-time vision and text reasoning for risk scoring, coupled with native Web Speech API bindings (SpeechSynthesisUtterance) for localized voice prompts.

Challenges we ran into

Multilingual Speech & Accent Localization: Fine-tuning voice synthesis locale tags so that complex technical ergonomic terminology sounds natural across regional African languages like isiZulu, isiXhosa, and Sesotho. Responsive UI Layout & Padding Bounds: Eliminating Z-index overlaps and drawer padding bleed on dense dashboard views (ensuring metric cards, checklist containers, and top headers sit cleanly across desktop and tablet viewports). Automating Financial Integrity: Ensuring the commercial billing engine dynamically handles fractional rates, tax calculations (15% SA VAT), and clean printable PDF exports without breaking frontend layout containers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Production-Ready & Fully Live: ErgoSafe Reborn V3 is not just a prototype—it is a live, fully deployed production web app with green Playwright E2E test passes. Localized Cultural Impact: Successfully integrating multi-accent voice guidance that connects directly with diverse frontline industrial workers who are often left out of traditional English-only software. Built-in Revenue Engine: Transitioning from a simple audit tool to a complete SaaS platform capable of generating real client invoices and managing corporate accounts.

What we learned

Building an AI-native business requires treating the AI agent (Nelly) not as a passive feature, but as an active operational teammate. We learned how to seamlessly blend real-time multimodal AI analysis with strict corporate compliance standards and financial billing pipelines.

What's next for ErgoSafe Reborn V3

Computer Vision Wearable Integration: Expanding Nelly's posture telemetry to connect directly with smart glasses and mobile cameras on warehouse floors. Enterprise ERP Connectors: Integrating ErgoSafe's automated invoicing and compliance logs into platforms like SAP and Workday for automated HR reporting. Expanding Global Language Models: Training custom Gemini prompts to support additional regional African and Latin American dialects for global workplace safety rollout.
