🌟 Inspiration

Emergency Rooms are chaotic and time-critical. Doctors and nurses face overwhelming patient volumes, incomplete information, and delays in documentation. We were inspired to create ER Copilot to act as a supportive partner — giving medical teams faster insights, smarter decisions, and more time for patients.

🚑 What it does

ER Copilot is an AI-powered triage and workflow assistant for emergency rooms. • Analyzes symptoms, vitals, and history to assign triage priority with explainability (XAI). • Sends emergency alerts when critical cases are logged. • Provides predictive analytics for resource usage (beds, staff, equipment). • Enables voice-based documentation for faster, hands-free notes. • Offers a real-time dashboard with patient tracking and analytics.

🛠️ How we built it

• Frontend: React Native + Expo for a clean, cross-platform mobile app.
• AI Engine: Custom ML + LLM endpoint fine-tuned on emergency medicine datasets.
• Voice Input: Whisper API for medical speech-to-text.
• Analytics: Real-time charts using patient flow data with predictive modeling.
• Security: HIPAA-friendly encryption, offline-first design with sync on reconnect.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

• Ensuring AI explainability so doctors trust the triage scores.
• Designing a UI that is beautiful yet functional under ER stress.
• Making voice recognition reliable in noisy hospital environments.
• Balancing speed with privacy while keeping the app lightweight.

🏆 Accomplishments that we’re proud of

• Built a working AI triage system that explains its reasoning.
• Designed an intuitive dashboard that adapts to dark/light environments.
• Integrated real-time analytics and predictive insights into a mobile app.
• Created a fully HIPAA-compliant workflow that could run in real hospitals.

📚 What we learned

• The importance of responsible AI in healthcare — explainability, bias reduction, privacy.
• How small UX choices (color-coded vitals, dark mode, quick actions) impact real-world usability.
• Building with medical professionals in mind requires simplifying complexity without losing accuracy.

🚀 What’s next for ER Copilot App

• Integration with wearables and IoT devices for auto-vital capture.
• Multilingual support for global deployment.
• Expanding predictive analytics to forecast disease outbreaks and ER surges.
• Piloting ER Copilot in real hospital environments with healthcare partners.
