Inspiration

More observation cannot always distinguish competing explanations. EQUIVIA turns that limitation into an experiment-design game: two lamps always match, but either lamp could be driving the other.

What it does

The current local laboratory lets a learner inspect observations, predict what a deliberate clamp will do, and spend a six-trial experiment budget. Results update exact candidate weights without automatically revealing the hidden mechanism. A closing debrief distinguishes the authored answer from what the recorded evidence establishes. Notebooks save locally and export as replay-validated files that can be reopened without losing the investigation when an import fails.

How it is built

JavaScript ES modules and Node.js 22 or newer run without runtime npm dependencies. A bounded engine enumerates binary structural causal models with exact rational arithmetic. Conditioning filters observations; intervention replaces an equation. Optional server-side roles provide a reasoning coach and creator studio. NVIDIA Nemotron on Nebius is intended to propose explanations or worlds, while independent calculations check observational equality and intervention separation.

Current limits

No live Nebius response has been qualified. Synthetic provider tests establish application behavior only. The lesson uses two candidate worlds and two lamps; it does not establish unrestricted causal discovery or educational effectiveness.
