Inspiration

Being exposed to various workspace whether it's a career or volunteering in club activities, we have always noticed the "gender bias" issue. Hence, it inspired us to actually come up with a solution to address it. We believe that moving forward as a society, this shouldn't be a problem that we keep nagging on, but to actually solve it now and tackle more pressing issues in the future.

What it does

It allows employees and employers to both practice transparency by uploading their wages and any benefits that they receive or provide for their positions. This can help in assessing one's company for presence of gender bias as well as helping underprivileged parties to get what they deserve. In 2024, people should be value not by their gender, but their experience, their knowledge and what kind of value they can provide to the workplace.

How we built it

The solution is being built using Astro JS serving as the main framework whereas Tailwind CSS for styling and flowbite for component base control towards the development. To enhance the solution even further, we applies API like tesseract JS and faker JS to makes the solution more solid. The solution is proud to say that we have it AI and data driven powered through OCR algorithm support and apexcharts JS charting display.

Challenges we ran into

Routing in having dynamic data API solely in one frontend specialized framework is challenging. Not to mention, the first thought of doing the OCR, we explore AWS Javascript SDK specifically Textract SDK. Due to fund constraint, we decided to explore other options which ends up we pick up a new exploration by using tesseract JS for the specific OCR function.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we managed to produced a web app with an entire new tech stack that we haven't had experience before.

What we learned

Research and development in social problem is definitely something new and good to gain knowledge in this specific industry where everyone of us are new at. Building a solution in all completely new tech stacks is also part of the learning through this hackathon!

What's next for Equipay

Tackling such a sensitive problem definitely takes a lot of courage, we built this app for the sole purpose of battling gender bias in the workplace. It was challenging how to structure the app to cater to what we believe in. And if all things works out, we hope to push it further and introduce it into job seeking platforms and make a positive change!
