Inspiration

Most professionals suffer from "app fragmentation", constantly switching between calendars, financial trackers, and task managers. This context-switching kills focus and obscures the big picture. I wanted to build a command center that balances a user’s schedule with their actual resources.

What it does

Equilibrium is a comprehensive productivity command center designed to bridge the gap between time management and resource allocation. It offers a robust suite of features to ensure users stay on top of every aspect of their professional and personal life: Goal Tracking: Monitor progress toward financial and project-based goals using high-impact visual indicators like progress rings. Hierarchical Management: Organize complex workflows into projects and tasks with integrated deadline tracking. Financial Integration: Monitor expenses and income linked directly to specific projects or tasks for real-time budget clarity. Calendar Sync: Sync deadlines and events with Google Calendar and other calendar services for seamless scheduling and automated reminders. Collaboration: Share workspaces and collaborate with other users in real-time. Reporting & Analytics: Export financial reports for external analysis and utilize built-in tools to analyze financial trends and forecasts. Automation: Set up recurring tasks and expenses to save time on administrative overhead. Accessibility: Access the platform via mobile native apps with full offline support and data synchronization. Extensibility: Integrate with various third-party services to create a truly unified ecosystem. Data Security: Customize notification preferences and utilize reliable backup and restore functionality to keep data safe.

How we built it

Equilibrium was engineered as a high-performance web application using a modern, scalable tech stack: Core Framework: React with TypeScript for robust, type-safe frontend development. Build Tooling: Vite for lightning-fast development cycles and optimized production bundling. Backend & Database: Supabase was utilized for real-time database management, authentication, and backend services. Styling: PostCSS and global CSS modules were used to achieve a sleek, dark-themed "Unified Workspace" aesthetic. Architecture: The project follows a clean service-oriented architecture: src/services: Handles all database interactions. src/context: Manages global application state for sync and user preferences. src/db: Contains schema configurations and migration logic.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest technical hurdle was the real-time synchronization of the Time-to-Deadline countdown. Handling different time-zones from the Google Calendar API while maintaining a frame-perfect countdown required precise mathematical calculations. The remaining time $T_{rem}$ is calculated as:$$T_{rem} = T_{deadline} - T_{now}$$ I also faced challenges in UI/UX design, balancing the complexity of financial tracking with a minimalist productivity interface to ensure the app didn't feel cluttered or overwhelm

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am particularly proud of the Modular Tab System. Most productivity tools are rigid, but Equilibrium allows the user to define their own workspace. Seeing a user successfully add a custom "Dorm Safety Project" tab alongside their "Finance" tab proved that our architecture was truly flexible. I also successfully managed a secure, seamless OAuth handshake with Google, which is a significant milestone for any productivity tool.

What we learned

This project was a deep dive into Asynchronous State Management. I learned how to handle background data fetches from external APIs without interrupting the user's workflow. Furthermore, building the financial ledger taught us the importance of data validation, ensuring that every dollar tracked is accurately reflected in the overarching project goals.

What's next for Equilibrium

I have an ambitious roadmap to turn Equilibrium into the ultimate AI-driven assistant: AI Integration: Implementing advanced AI-powered task prioritization and voice command integration. Advanced PM Tools: Introducing Agile and Scrum boards with full time-tracking functionality. Fintech Expansion: Multi-currency support, tax calculation reporting, and seamless integration with accounting software. Gamification: A new achievement system to reward productivity milestones. B2B Features: Advanced team workspace templates and invoice generation directly from project financial data.
