Inspiration
The persistent global gaps in gender equity and social inclusion inspired us to take action. With SDG 5 and SDG 10 as our guiding light, we wanted to create a solution that not only highlights inequality but actively works to reduce it using accessible technology. We were driven by stories of underrepresented voices—particularly those of women, minorities, and people with disabilities—who are often left out of conversations that shape our world.
What it does
EqualiTech is a web-based platform that amplifies marginalized voices through storytelling and community-driven support. It allows users to share lived experiences, access resources tailored to their identity or situation (such as education, employment, legal aid, or mental health support), and connect with mentors or allies. The platform also uses interactive data visualizations to raise awareness of inequality trends in real-time and encourage civic participation through campaigns and petitions.
How we built it
I built the prototype using bolt.new, a rapid development tool that enabled me to create a functional web experience without needing to write extensive backend code. The platform combines interactive forms, content blocks, and community features, all styled with accessibility and clarity in mind.
Challenges we ran into
Narrowing down the feature set while staying true to our mission Ensuring the user interface was welcoming and inclusive to all identities Finding reliable open data sources on global inequalities Designing with accessibility in mind (color contrast, screen-reader support, etc.)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a functional prototype within a short timeframe Building a mission-driven solution that tackles real-world issues Making the platform accessible and intuitive for a wide range of users Receiving positive feedback on the visual design and core concept
What we learned
How to prioritize impact over perfection during a hackathon The importance of inclusive design and clear messaging How powerful storytelling can be in addressing systemic problems That even a small tool, when made with care, can empower change
What's next for EqualiTech
Integrating AI to personalize resource recommendations based on user needs Partnering with NGOs to expand verified content and mentorship opportunities Adding multilingual support to reach more global communities Launching a beta version to gather real user feedback and refine the product
