What it does
The EQ Classroom is an interactive web-based platform designed to enhance emotional intelligence among students with learning disabilities. Through engaging video lessons on typical social situations and ways to appropriately handle them tailored to the unique needs of students with learning disabilities, we empower students to build social and interpersonal skills. Understanding that parental support is a key factor in a student’s journey, we also offer tips and encouragement for parents. Our goal is to create a safe, accessible, and welcoming online platform that supports students outside school: social situations and everyday life.
How we built it
We used primarily html and css. In the future we plan to use backend and json and mangodb.
Challenges we ran into
There were many difficulties learning to code in html and css. While usually we have worked in the past on languages that are more object-oriented, html and css were a new field to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of our design and the overall aesthetics of our website. We are also are very proud of being able to learn the code for a whole website, starting from scratch and ending with a fully-functional website. Our UI specifically is something we pride ourselves on and it's important to note the topic of the website. We are happy to be able to help the larger community and provide care to as many students as possible to foster a better, nurturing world.
What we learned
We learned a lot about different disabilities and the symptoms of each one. The research we did on this project was incredibly niche and enlightening. The work that we did trying to come up with solutions proved to be one of the most valuable parts of our project, teaching us about different disabilities and how life differs for each patient.
What's next for EQ Classroom
As we move into the future, further developments in research will be founded by scientists who focus on learning disorders. As the breadth of information available to the public increases, we will adjust our curriculum to contain the capacity for more social situations and different ways to present our content. In addition, EQ Classroom aims to expand its reach and impact by collaborating with schools and educators to integrate emotional intelligence learning into classrooms. For example, we can partner with professionals to build resources and training for special education teachers to incorporate emotional intelligence into their curriculum. xx
