Inspiration

Oftentimes, students are misguided by the information from a non-credible source and are exposed to the risks of getting scammed with sublease/purchases. To solve these underlying problems, we decided to create a platform targeting college students as the only audience.

What it does

EPPEY is an anonymous community where college students can freely share their opinions and helpful information with their school's/college students, sell or buy items on a school exclusive marketplace, get a recommendation for school courses, and many other functions permitted ONLY within their school community.

How we built it

We used React Native and Expo for the frontend and used Google Cloud Platform (Identity Platform, API Gateway, Functions, SQL, and Firebase Cloud Messaging) for the backend. Look at the image below for an overall diagram of our architecture.

Architecture

Challenges we ran into

We couldn't implement all of the features we wanted our platform to have due to time constraints. Otherwise, all of our development phases went smoothly as expected.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Under 36 hours, we have succeeded in building a working product that can be released to the public, implementing most of the features that we have initially planned. By building serverless architecture with Google Cloud Services, our product is easily scalable and cost-efficient as we get billed only on our actual usage.

What's next for Eppey

We will keep scaling our platform and make it into a real business.
