Students with learning disabilities and overall lack of focus in school

What it does

Epoch is a transformative educational tool designed specifically for the Apple Vision Pro. Utilizing its cutting-edge VisionOS platform, our project focuses on enhancing education through immersive technology. We incorporated 3D Visualization and Interactive Learning overlays, providing a unique approach to exploring significant historical events in an engaging manner.

How we built it

We used Swift within XCode’s environment, with ARKit and SceneKit enabling the augmented reality and 3D features. Reality compressor was used for crafting 3D models.

Challenges we ran into

Objective lighting within our 3D environments. Large processing power required in running/bulilding each environment in our app's platform

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fully functional in every aspect. Two completed 3D scenes.

What we learned

Learned the difference between swift for MacOS (Iphones, Laptop/Desktop, IPad) and swift for Vision OS. This was our first time building a project with VisionOS

Continue building and further detailing our 3D environments.

Our initiative aligns with the theme of 'Tech for Good' by leveraging advanced technology to make learning more digestible and engaging thus improving educational outcomes. We used Swift within XCode’s environment, with ARKit and SceneKit enabling the augmented reality and 3D features. Reality compressor was used for crafting 3D models.

Ethically, we prioritized inclusivity and accuracy. Through past experiences we have recognized the unique challenges faced by children with learning disabilities and overall slower learners. Epoch ensures a supportive, adaptable learning environment that can be tailored to meet diverse educational needs regardless of learning pace or style.

Epoch addresses the challenge of disengagement in education by transforming it into an interactive and immersive experience. Our motivation was driven by the need to make learning more obtainable and enjoyable. The future of this project includes expanding the event database to cover more global histories and refining the learning modules based on user feedback. In addition, the 3D environments themselves would be far more accurate and truly interactive.

Upon launching VisionOS users are presented with a menu view from which they can choose a specific event to explore. Each selected historical moment is rendered as a 3D scene. Users navigate these scenes using the touchpad or drag. This immersion ensures that learners of all ages can engage with the content in a meaningful way.
