Inspiration
============= We were inspired by a deadline, to be honest ;) We'd been thinking about creating a HubSpot theme and had some initial plans for one...but since our company pivoted to RevOps, we've been doing less on the website side of our business.
What it does
============= It's a HubSpot theme. It gives people drag-and-drop capabilities to build a website without having to rely on any devs. It's what people tend to like about Wordpress, but since it's on HubSpot, it's better (i.e., comes with none of the plugins, bloat, or security issues).
How we built it
============= We built it using Javascript, CSS, and I think some HubDB. There were three of us. Chiara (me), the content strategist who laid out the modules, functionality, and then project managed the theme; Nick, our front-end designer who designed the modules and nailed our site speed; and Kam, our back-end who developed all the modules.
Challenges we ran into
============= It wasn't immediately apparent to us that changing things at the template and module level have to be done independently. It took several rounds of QC on my part to discover the disconnect between what I was asking for and what the devs were turning out. We also may or may not have broken the entire site once or twice.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
============= Getting it done. Making something cool that we can be proud of and list on HubSpot marketplace. Learning to work better as a WebOps team.
What we learned
============= Things always take longer than you plan. I was going to submit a week in advance of the deadline, but there were enough unforeseen issues that we weren't able to submit until today.
What's next for Epic ROI theme submission by Remotish
============= We have an AMAZING calculator module we're developing. Also see some room for improvement on existing modules. We'll tweak it here and there, add a few modules that didn't quite make the deadline, and then put this on the shelf and get back to RevOps ;-)
