Inspiration
In a previous hackathon, we created a web app that connected those in need of emergency crisis housing to shelters with availability, ensuring that no one is turned away at the door. Drawing from this idea of connecting vulnerable individuals to services, we created menTOrs with the intention of simplifying the often complicated process of getting help.
What it does
A user fills in basic information about what kind of help they would like to get from a mentor (ex: tech help, tutoring, transportation...). Our algorithm then matches this individual with a mentor from a pool of volunteers that best fits their needs, based off of the mentor's aptitudes.
How we built it
We used Figma to design and prototype the user-facing side of our product.
Challenges we ran into
As introductory computer science students, we have little experience with full-stack development, and as a result, had limited options when it came to the functionality of our product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the visual layout and UI of the product, which we believe is clean and functional.
What we learned
Coding is hard!
What's next for menTOrs
No plans at the moment, but our team will continue to develop our skills at future hackathons:)
