Eomma: Because We All Deserve a Little Care
π§ What it does
It is an AI-powered food scanner app that helps users make informed and healthier food choices β like a digital mom guiding you from afar. By scanning a food itemβs barcode (GTIN), the app fetches real-time nutritional information, identifies harmful ingredients, and suggests healthier alternatives. It's designed to be intuitive, fast, and caring β a true wellness companion for people living away from home.
π οΈHow we built it
- The backend was built using Flask, which handles barcode input, connects to a third-party food database API, and processes ingredient and nutritional data.
- We developed a lightweight machine learning model trained on curated food ingredient data to detect harmful substances and provide smart recommendations.
- API responses (mostly in nested JSON) were converted to structured CSV for model training and data validation.
- My partner focused on building a warm, clean, and user-friendly frontend UI, mimicking the feel of care and simplicity.
- Integration was made modular to support easy scaling and maintenance.
πWhat's next for Eomma
- Personalized health insights based on user profiles like diabetic, vegan, or weight-conscious users.
- Expanding to restaurant meals and groceries, not just packaged food.
- Partnering with nutritionists or integrating with fitness apps for complete health tracking.
- Personalized AI assistant talk
- Personalizes diet-chart planner
- Blood-reports scans and better insides
