Inspiration
There are a lot of people who are interested in volunteering, but do not know where to start. It is also being noticed that when people are being rewarded in some way (that doesn't necessarily have to be money), they tend to work harder. There are some individuals who aren't a part of community and yet are interested in volunteering, but volunteer for very same reason. Our web application is built to solve these problems.
What it does
EnVol lists all social-responsibility-based events happening in the specified area of residence. The events can either be hosted by organizations or even by the users themselves. For every event the users participate in, they get rewarded with points in each skill required by the event, and a e-certificate of participation, which will be shown on their profile. These points build up a personalized profile to build their skills graph. This data can then be used by companies to check their candidates' skills.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS , JavaScript and python to build this application. We used the Flask web framework.
Challenges we ran into
We didnt have experience in web app development and thought that it was almost imposible to do so until yesterday, when we had actually created a full fledged web application. Another challenge that we ran into is to communicate with each other and keep up-to-date with all the code files we had, which we ended doing pretty well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got to create an entire web application, which we initially thought would be impossible to develop.
What we learned
We learned how to design web pages using HTML and CSS, and how to link all of them together using Flask.
What's next for EnVol - Encourage Volunteering
- link the EnVol profile with the Linkedin Profile
- Once a user selects an event, they will be redirected to a page where everyone who signed up for the same event can chat and communicate with each other. (something like a chat room)
