Environmental Sustainability Command Center

Inspiration

The idea for the Environmental Sustainability Command Center was inspired by the rising urgency of ESG regulations in the U.S. With regulators like the Environmental Protection Agency mandating stricter disclosure of energy usage, renewable adoption, supplier emissions, and incident reporting, companies face enormous pressure to comply. Yet, many organizations still struggle with fragmented data, delayed reporting, and unreliable insights. This gap between compliance needs and data reality motivated us to design a solution that unifies ESG data, surfaces risks in real time, and enables immediate corrective actions.

What it does

The dashboard provides a single pane of glass for ESG performance. It unifies Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, applies a calculated Sustainability Risk Score, and highlights high-risk accounts. It allows compliance officers to raise incidents directly from the dashboard, ensuring issues are logged and escalated instantly. AI-driven insights from Agentforce let users query data in natural language, while automated flows notify stakeholders, generate compliance reports, and suggest corrective actions.

How we built it

We used Salesforce Data Cloud to ingest and harmonize emissions data from energy usage, supplier operations, and travel. Calculated insights were created to aggregate data at the account level and compute risk scores. Tableau Next was used for visualization, powered by Tableau Semantics to ensure consistent definitions. Agentforce enabled AI-driven queries, and Salesforce Flows automated incident creation and compliance processes. Slack integration was added for real-time collaboration and notifications.

Challenges we ran into

Defining a risk scoring formula that fairly balanced energy use and renewable adoption. Harmonizing data from multiple sources without losing quality. Designing dashboards that were both intuitive for compliance officers and detailed enough for analysts. Ensuring automation flows aligned with real-world escalation processes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created an end-to-end ESG solution that doesn’t just visualize problems but drives accountability and action. From high-risk account detection to one-click incident reporting and AI-powered recommendations, the system demonstrates how sustainability can be managed with the same rigor as finance or sales.

What we learned

We learned how to combine data, AI, and automation into a single ESG framework. Calculated insights and AI agents proved especially powerful, enabling proactive monitoring instead of reactive reporting. We also gained experience in embedding dashboards at the account level, making ESG performance tangible for every stakeholder.

What's next for Environmental Sustainability Command Center

The next step is to expand into predictive forecasting using historical emissions trends to anticipate future risks. We also plan to incorporate supplier benchmarking, comparing vendors not just on cost but also sustainability performance. Ultimately, our goal is to help organizations move beyond compliance and embrace sustainability as a strategic advantage.
