Inspiration

The rampant climate change due to pollution in the world and the fact that no one has a clear scope of the problem. We wanted to target the younger generation because they are the ones who will have to deal with this issue. We built a video game to engage this generation but also allow them to learn at the same time.

What it does

It is a game in which the player makes decisions which cause the world to get better or worse in terms of pollution. After the player completes a turn (e.x. plant trees), the computer takes turns to attempt to destroy earth. Pollution of the world affects the global climate and the water level. If those variables get too high you lose. your job is to manage your money while still saving the environment.

How we built it

We started using C# in unity. However, we quickly changed to a java chatbot that you put in an input and it says what happens. We coded java in both NetBeans and VS.

Challenges we ran into

Only one of us knew how to code in unity. We couldn't plug our code into the actual map because our unity guy left.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our ability to work together and work with kids from other schools. We tried to expand our boundaries and reach out to others.

What we learned

When many variables are all in one equation, there are many conflicting factors. We had to manage different pollution levels and money levels so that the game would be winnable at all times.

What's next for Environmental Revolution

We plan to implement our code into an attractive UI. We also have to give the player more ways to win (more actions he/she can take). Additionally, we want to convert our code to be compatible with mobile devices since this is the main way that the younger generation plays games today. Our biggest plan for the future however is an actual 2D unity game with better playability and better algorithms.
