Inspiration

We were inspired by the nature theme of this hackathon. We wanted to follow through on this theme in a way that can actually positively impact the world.

What it does

This app is meant to educate users about how to help the environment. It can be deployed on Android, iOS, or the web.

How we built it

We used react native, expo, react native paper.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we planned on incorporating a text message service that would give users a daily goal to help reduce their environmental impact, and then later the plan was to have email/password authentication. We had to scrap both of these plans because we were unsuccessful in fully implementing these functionalities. None of us had experience with react native, which made initial progress slow as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creation of a rudimentary app that showcased the basics of our vision. We are also proud of how much we learned.

What we learned

Lots and lots of react native. Also learned about Firebase authentication and realtime database.

What's next for Environmental Educator

In the future we would like to finish up the authentication and texting services that we had to scrap for this submission. Maybe in the future this app can help out the world.

I used React Native to create hyperlinks, and images for the final product, so that the users can access more information about different topics in our product. I've also helped a little in making the profile page for the user using React Native. I also learned a little about GitHub commands.

Leon Lucious Jr.
I worked on the backend code which ended up not being a big part of the final product. I learned a ton about authentication and databases with Firebase.

Allan Elfe Jr.
I used React Native to add the information under the education tab. I also researched the information and helped with the profile tab, although a-lot of the styles i used had not made it to the final result as we ran out of time. This was my first time using React Native and i had learned a-lot during AuburnHacks.

Jonas Boteler
I worked on the react native code for the app. It was my first time working with react native and react native paper, and I only had some experience with java script before this hackathon. I learned a lot about react native, and how it is used to make apps.
