Inspiration

Small farming is at a big risk today. Large "corporate" farms are able to monopolize, mechanise, and automate the farming process while traditional, slower farming suffers. As a result, there is a large general understanding among us laypeople that the process of farming is easy. It's not, but it's the reason for humanity's existence so far. That's why we built EnvirAI to simplify the process for laypersons to help them appreciate the role that farmers play in society today.

What it does

EnvirAI is a tool that helps people understand the land they live in. By simulating the process -- from selecting a plot of land, choosing the crops to grow and the type of irrigation to use, and using AI models and real-time data of air, soil and weather quality to provide crop recommendations, our app makes it easy to plot farm layouts and understand how to maximize the farm's overall revenue.

How we built it

Our app was built entirely in JavaScript/Typescript with a React frontend. Our backend was completely written with custom Typescript code + a Node.js API. All data from our API services and outputs from AI models are processed here before being neatly packaged for the frontend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of what we've accomplished and built. I initially had a team of 4, but 3 backed out from the hackathon due to personal reasons. I was left to design and write code for the entire backend. This was my very first exposure to Typescript.

What we learned

So much about the farming industry. Like my intended audience, I too was completely unaware of the challenges faced by farmers today.

What's next for EnvirAI

I hope to continue this project (hopefully with my initial team :)), expand this and publish this on a wider platform so that many people can potentially benefit from this.
