BetterTogether

Inspiration

We all know how local businesses suffered due to COVID-19. This is a project that we built to help them understand what avenues are available to help them grow and re-build.

What it does

The user can enter a channel that we created specifically for this on Discord and type in their needs. If they need some food, they can just type in, "I need some food".

How we built it

We built it using Python using the Discord.py package, a charity API and hosted it on Google App Engine.

Challenges we ran into

Difficulties in parsing the Charity API to obtain the data that we wanted from it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built an actual discord chatbot without any prior such experience.

How chatbots work and how to work with NLP to understand context

What's next for BetterTogether

Some more additions to make the NLP better and help it understand a lot more context. Integration of more API's to able to help more.

I worked on integrating the API key for the discord bot backend and implemented the logic to segregate bot's responses based on the channel the message was sent from
