What's next for Enterprise Cyberattack Response Simulation

Our project was inspired by the increasing frequency of cyberattacks affecting organizations worldwide. As a team of IT students passionate about security, we wanted to understand not just how attacks happen — but how to respond to them effectively.

We built a simulated enterprise environment and triggered controlled attacks to test how prepared we were. The simulation involved real-world tools and techniques used by both attackers and defenders. It started with threat modeling, followed by vulnerability scanning using tools like Nmap, Nikto, Ciscoand Burp Suite. We then developed and ran a custom Bash script that automated the scanning process and logged findings for analysis.

One of the biggest challenges was interpreting scan results and turning them into actionable defense strategies. We learned to think like attackers while developing structured responses based on frameworks like NIST. Throughout the project, teamwork, communication, and practical troubleshooting were just as important as technical skill.

We walked away with a much clearer understanding of incident response — from detection to containment — and developed confidence working with tools we’ll likely use in real jobs.
