Inspiration

One day, my mother came home from work, and she seemed quite sad. When I asked her what was wrong, she replied with a blunt statement. "The power lines." There were power lines that were being proposed near our neighbourhood, as we live in the data center capital of the world: Loudoun County. That's when I knew that we should build something that would give back to the community.

What it does

EnScore provides details to residents or companies related to AI Infrastructure (Data Centers, Transmission Lines, Substations). This would help the community because if Data Centers stop growing and expanding, there will be an economic recession occurring. This is why we help the companies as a community instead of limiting them as a community.

How we built it

We used the tools and languages of TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React, Node.js, GeoJSON, OpenStreetMap, Git, GitHub, and Claude Code. We used TypeScript as an alternative to JavaScript because we knew JavaScript in the past, and over the past few months we researched alternatives and realized that TypeScript is a better option because it lets us know the errors occurring specifically. Also, the other features like HTML, CSS, and React helped us with our frontend process with color design and font. The other tools helped us store our code and the specific important parts of our app. Overall, Claude Code helped us speed up this process and build our app in the best way we can.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into include collaboration, code debugging, solving issues, and time management. Some collaboration problems that occurred were that we didn't all agree on ideas, and we took a lot of time to solve them, which led into our time management issue because we didn't split or plan our time accordingly until halfway through the challenge which helped a lot after we did it. Some code debugging issues that showed up were false info in the code because relying on AI agents didn't help us with fact-checking. Having true code is important, so we spent most of our time on that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building this functional app in a matter of hours as a group, despite the challenges we faced. We are also proud of competing in our first hackathon as a group and making our way through it. and building a functioning app

What we learned

We learned how to collaborate through teamwork under time pressure. Another important lesson we learned while completing this app is how to effectively design and create something under time. Because we have never been to a hackathon or a coding competition, we have never competed under the factor of time, so this would be a first for us, and we learned the appropriate steps we can take in the future.

What's next for EnScore

We plan to expand these features and items internationally and also partner with brands like Zillow and Redfin to help home residents. We also would like to collaborate with Data Center companies to improve and help them use this country/internationally wide.
