Inspiration

Our main reason to venture out into the notary market is that in the current situation our solution can help to remove some of the restrictions in the notarial activities. We see this as an opportunity to reestablish some of the broken links in the supply chains and to relax the disrupted business activities for both people and companies. We can also see clear growth in the digitization of products and services. Many governments are reacting to the situation by relaxing some laws and limitations to enable more digital workflows in some old-fashioned processes.

What it does

eNotary connects notaries with their clients using video chat and provides tools for both sides to populate documents, verify identities, use digital signatures and stamps and store the end product in Blockchain.

How I built it

Our MVP integrates video chat and digital identity verification providers to support notaries with their verification step of the notarial service. They stay connected until the documents are notarized to ensure that clients act on their free will. Finally, we store the notarized documents in Blockchain to ensure their integrity and immutability. We're building this using Amazon Web Services, .NET Core and Angular.

Challenges I ran into

Currently, the main challenge e-Notary is facing is the lack of expertise in the area of understanding comparative regulations of the notary profession within the EU Member States. Based on the experience gained while validating the solution, we found difficulties connecting with a sufficient number of notaries (within Bulgarian market) to cooperate with through means of surveys.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Gathered a team of people who did not know each other personally prior the Bulgarian hackathon, yet collaborated smoothly. Our team was selected as one of the finalists of #HackCrisis Bulgaria in two separate rounds; Organized a meeting with the Bulgarian Notary Chamber to present our solution.

What I learned

Understanding of the notary profession and the accompanying regulations (within local Bulgarian market); Understanding how US companies solve the same problems, what platforms exist there, how they solved legal issues and what technologies they used;

What's next for eNotary

We're close to presenting our solution in front of the Bulgarian Notary Chamber. We're going to ask them to support our legal research, endorse our solution and help us find early adopters among its members; We've just started working on our MVP and plan to start our first pilot project in the beginning of September; We were invited to an angel investors event to present our idea and we believe we have a good chance for an early stage investment;
