Inspiration

We all struggle with writing formal emails, so why not make use of AI models and datasets to translate our Singlish Paragraphs to English Paragraphs?

What it does

Our chrome extension allows you to change Singlish to English by highlighting the text you want changed, right clicking and selecting "Singlish to English". The English version of the paragraph will be copied to your clipboard along with a popup letting you know that it's been copied to your clipboard.

Other than that, we also have a web interface instead.

How we built it

We realised there weren't any datasets with Singlish And English Translation so we created our own. Then, we remove punctuations from the given paragraph and spilt up the paragraph according to the punctuations, then we switch out Singlish words for English words in order for the sentence to retain its meaning. Finally, we use the Pegasus Paraphrase API from HuggingFace to get rearrange the phrases so that they make sense.

Challenges we ran into

We weren't used to chrome extensions since we haven't built any before so this was interesting for us!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are glad that the dataset helped the API to be more accurate for Singlish!

  • Improving userbility of our chrome extension
