Inspiration

I tried to learn a new language, but apps never provided me with good learning. I searched YouTube and books for good methods, but only found methods, never content. So, I took what I learned and used AI to create the perfect content for me, in an easy way: a single HTML page to open and study.

What it does

The JS and HTML app offers English for native Brazilian speakers. It has all the categories, allowing people to practice listening comprehension, speaking, and reading complete sentences. The app also presents the correct pronunciation in the text and audio.

How we built it

I opened the Codex and searched for the 500 most used phrases in English and then transformed that content into an HTML page. I saw the result, liked it, and asked for more features. I tested it for 4 days and, feeling the need for other features, I went back to the Codex and ChatGPT and requested new functions. Finally, I asked for many suggestions to implement.

Challenges we ran into

The challenge was to create a correct and simple format so that the user could start studying and continue practicing in their daily life. Therefore, the teaching focuses on phrases, not words.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app is perfect for me and my wife because it has an initial slider, and I can use it on my smartphone to listen to or view the list of phrases.

What we learned

How to use the Codex to generate new ideas in a real project. I can test, make changes quickly, use and modify again, and explore ideas. For a first app, it's amazing.

What's next for English Recall

I will share it with some friends and maybe publish it on the Apple Store and Google Play to earn money from ads or subscriptions.
