Inspiration: Expanding Horizons
As children, both my spouse and I experienced limited exposure to the world of possibilities. We didn’t know which careers existed, what skills were needed, or how to explore emerging fields. Our understanding of what was possible was shaped by what people around us knew and endorsed.
Today, as parents, we face the same challenge: understanding our children’s interests and helping them explore, learn, and grow. The kind of structured guidance and early exposure that a young athlete receives is rarely available for knowledge-based pursuits, leaving many children, especially in underserved communities, without the support they need to develop curiosity, skills, and ambition.
This shared experience inspired us to create Enginuity — a platform that empowers learners of all ages, ** irrespective of socio-economic conditions** , to explore, learn, and connect with opportunities, mentorship, and a supportive community.
What it does
Enginuity is an AI-powered platform that grows with learners — from early-age students to early-career individuals — helping them uncover interests, explore opportunities, and connect with a supportive community. AI curates personalized, age-appropriate content and surfaces global opportunities, competitions, mentorships, and emerging career paths. Parents, teachers, and mentors can join, making learning a shared, lifelong adventure. The platform is designed for all learners, irrespective of socio-economic conditions, with a special focus on underserved communities.
How we built it
Enginuity was created as a joint brainchild of me and my spouse, combining our experiences as learners and parents. We focused on:
- Longitudinal growth: Supporting learners across years, from curiosity to early career.
- AI-curated content: Ensuring safe, meaningful, and personalized learning experiences.
- Opportunity discovery: Surfacing relevant events, competitions, and mentorships.
- Community integration: Engaging parents, teachers, and mentors.
- Equity-first design: Ensuring accessibility for underserved learners.
Challenges we ran into
Below are some of the challenges we are experimenting with as part of the pilot:
- Designing AI to curate age-appropriate content while keeping it engaging.
- Creating a platform that adapts to a learner’s growth over years.
- Ensuring meaningful mentor and community engagement.
- Making global opportunities accessible to students in underserved regions.
- Balancing personalization and scalability without overwhelming learners.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully created a prototype that maps interests to personalized opportunities.
- Developed an AI-driven engine that recommends content, events, and mentorship based on learner profiles.
- Built a framework that integrates parents, teachers, and mentors into the learning journey.
- Designed the platform with equity and accessibility at its core, serving underserved learners effectively.
What we learned
Below are some of our key learnings:
- Early exposure and structured guidance are critical — just like training a young athlete — for knowledge-based pursuits.
- Curiosity, when nurtured longitudinally, can evolve into hobbies, skills, and passionate careers.
- A community of parents, teachers, and mentors dramatically enhances learner engagement and impact.
- AI curation is powerful but must be carefully monitored for appropriateness and effectiveness.
Why Gemini 3?
Google Gemini plays a crucial role in Enginuity by acting as an intelligent guide that continuously understands, curates, and adapts to each learner’s journey . Gemini can interpret a student’s interests, curiosity signals, age, and learning pace to safely curate structured knowledge, events, experiments, and mentorship opportunities from trusted sources. By summarizing complex topics into age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and easy-to-consume insights, Gemini expands a student’s horizon beyond their immediate environment—especially for learners in underserved communities. Over time, Gemini enables longitudinal growth by identifying evolving interests, recommending new exploration paths, and ensuring content remains current, responsible, and personalized, turning curiosity into sustained ambition and informed opportunity discovery.
What's next for Enginuity — Explore Beyond Your Horizon
As a continuous effort to bring this out in the world and contribute to building a more aware society, we intend to:
- Expand the AI curation engine to include predictive insights about emerging careers and global opportunities.
- Roll out a pilot program with middle school learners to refine the longitudinal journey.
- Introduce more interactive experiences like challenges, competitions, and mentorship sessions.
- Scale the platform to reach underserved regions globally, ensuring no child’s ambition is limited by geography or socio-economic conditions.
