Inspiration
The inspiration behind this project was to learn Streamlit technology and get familiar with their tech. I originally wanted to create a Fitness Tracking application, however, due to time constraints (I started working on this project today) I ended up working on a Translator.
What it does
The application is a very simple English-to-Japanese translator. The UI is very simple and clean.
How we built it
This web application was built using Streamlit, python and API from RapidAPI. I first got familiar with Streamlit as I am already comfortable with Python, and then I focused on learning and using different APIs that would suit the application and not run into API Request limits.
Challenges we ran into
- Had no previous experience working on GitHub Codespaces so it took me a little to get used to the code editor
- Had to learn how to integrate API, what they are and how they work. Learnt about request limits
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Made my first working web application :) and submitting to my first hackathon
- Got comfortable using Streamlit
- Learnt how to integrate APIs to code
What we learned
I learned a lot of new things, not to give up easily and that StackOverFlows and other discussion communities are a blessing. Got acquainted with new technologies and brainstormed for ideas.
What's next for English to Japanese Translator
I wanted to create an English to Japanese Translator that does the translation multiple times and the text becomes a little ambiguous due to loss of context in translation. I was unable to implement it this time due to API limit, but my next plan for this project is to reach this point. After that, I want to create a fitness tracker using Streamlit.
Built With
- api
- google-translate
- python
- streamlit
