EneTyl

Inspiration

Our journey began when a randomly assembled team of 11 students from TSI AUCA sought to create a meaningful social project. During brainstorming, we identified a critical gap: accessible, engaging resources for learning the Kyrgyz language. Existing tools were outdated or uninspiring, motivating us to build a mobile app that makes language learning fun and effective for locals and foreigners alike.

What it does

EneTyl is a mobile app designed to teach Kyrgyz through interactive experiences. Key features include:

  • 450+ words across Kyrgyz, Russian, and English for multilingual learning.
  • AI-generated visuals paired with each word to boost memorization.
  • Interactive games:
    • Matching words to images via drag-and-drop.
    • Spelling challenges where users rearrange letters to form correct words.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Developed with React-Native for cross-platform compatibility (iOS/Android).
  • Backend: Built using FastAPI with an SQLite database for efficient data management.
  • AI Integration: Leveraged open-source machine learning models to generate unique, high-quality images for vocabulary.
  • Design: Iterative UI/UX testing to balance educational value and engagement.

Challenges we ran into

  • Team Coordination: Aligning schedules and skills across 11 members required meticulous planning.
  • AI Limitations: Some generated images needed manual edits for clarity and relevance.
  • Balancing Engagement: Tuning game mechanics to be both educational and fun took multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Delivered a polished, functional app within a year despite team size and complexity.
  • Successfully integrated AI-generated visuals to enhance learning.
  • Achieved seamless compatibility across mobile platforms.
  • Preparing to launch on PlayMarket and AppStore to reach global audiences.

What we learned

  • Collaboration: Managing large, diverse teams with varying technical/non-technical skills.
  • App Development: End-to-end processes, from UI/UX design to deployment.
  • AI Workflows: Optimizing open-source tools for creative outputs.
  • Language Pedagogy: Structuring multilingual content for effective retention.

What's next for EneTyl

  • Global Launch: Publishing on PlayMarket and AppStore to expand accessibility.
  • Content Expansion: Adding advanced vocabulary and grammar modules.
  • Community Features: Exploring multiplayer modes or progress-sharing tools.
  • AI Enhancements: Refining image-generation models for greater accuracy.
