Inspiration

Energy consumption data is everywhere, but it’s often boring, overwhelming, or hard to track. I wanted to make a sustainability approachable, visual, and fun, especially for everyday users who don’t closely track their energy usage.

The idea for Energy Spellcaster came from asking:

What if saving energy felt like casting a spell instead of reading a spreadsheet? By combining AI predictions with a magical, gamified interface, I aimed to turn energy awareness into something engaging rather than intimidating.

What it does

Energy Spellcaster is an AI-powered web app where users log their daily energy usage (appliances, devices, activities), and an AI “wizard” analyzes patterns to predict future consumption. Based on this data, the app casts personalized energy-saving spells, such as:

  • Identifying high-usage appliances
  • Suggesting behavioral optimizations
  • Showing projected energy, cost, and CO₂ savings All insights are visualized through magical dashboards, spell cards, and forecasts — making sustainability feel interactive, story-driven, and rewarding rather than technical.

How I built it

User Input Layer

  • Users enter appliance usage through a simple daily form (lights, AC, electronics, etc.). AI Intelligence The backend generates a structured prompt and sends it to an AI model to:
  • Predict short-term energy usage
  • Identify inefficiencies
  • Return spell-style recommendations in structured JSON Data & Visualization
  • Results are stored in a database and rendered in a dashboard with:
  • Energy forecasts
  • Savings metrics
  • Spell-based recommendations Magical UX Animations and themed visuals transform raw data into an engaging, story-driven experience.

Challenges I ran into

  • Designing AI outputs that were both useful and playful
  • Structuring responses so they could be parsed and visualized cleanly
  • Balancing technical accuracy with a fun hackathon-scale UX
  • Building a full end-to-end flow (frontend, backend, AI, database) as a solo participant under tight time constraints
