Inspiration

We were intrigued by the idea of sustainability, and wondered what could be done to be more informed about the world we live in and better understand how we impact it. We ultimately decided that we wanted to make a program that would estimate the amount of energy that would be produced— and from what source— in the future, hoping that it could assist in making informed decisions.

What it does

Our project looks for trends in the production of energy over recorded history, and calculates an estimated quantity of energy from various specific sources that will be produced in the future. Additionally, the program visualizes the data to help the user better understand the context behind the estimation alongside the prediction itself.

How we built it

We constructed our project through the use of both GitHub and Visual Studio Code.

Challenges we ran into

Utilizing GitHub proved to be a challenge of its own, with many of us having little experience with it. As well as this, the algorithm we made in order for a prediction to be made was particularly difficult to make. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the program to display the prediction in its visualization.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall, we are very proud of the progress we made in our project, and are especially proud of the aforementioned challenges that we overcame: the program is complete and we figured out a linear regression algorithm.

What we learned

We learned a great deal over the course of this project. Notably, we learned what it was like to work in a team, and got an understanding of the tools that allow that collaboration to happen.

What's next for Energy Production Predictor

Perhaps in the future we will expand upon the data being taken in and try to predict more future energy trends to the best of our ability.
