Inspiration
I often struggle to make time for hobbies like reading books or listening to music. On busy days, it's hard to prioritize the things I enjoy, even when I use a calendar or a simple to-do list. Sometimes work becomes so demanding that I have to skip or cancel my personal plans. The problem is that I don't realize my energy is already depleted. With this Energy Planner, I can better understand my energy levels and decide when it's the right time to read, listen to music, take a break, or do other activities outside of work.
What it does
Energy Aware Planner helps users manage their energy, not just their time. Traditional calendars and to-do lists only tell users when to do something, but they don't consider whether the user has enough mental or physical energy to actually complete the task.
The application allows users to:
Track their daily energy levels. Plan work and personal activities based on available energy. Receive recommendations on when to work, rest, exercise, read, or enjoy hobbies. Avoid burnout by balancing productivity with recovery.
Instead of asking "Do I have time?", Energy Aware Planner helps users ask "Do I have the energy?"
How we built it
Frontend: React + TypeScript Storage: Browser Local Storage AI: GPT-5.6 for personalized energy planning recommendations Development: Built with Codex to rapidly prototype and iterate on the idea.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing a planner that focuses on energy rather than time.
Traditional planners assume every hour is equally productive, but in reality our energy fluctuates throughout the day. We had to rethink how tasks should be scheduled based on mental capacity instead of available time.
Another challenge was creating recommendations that feel helpful without overwhelming users. Finding the right balance between productivity and recovery was an important design consideration.

- Successfully integrated AI to provide personalized scheduling recommendations. ## What we learned Throughout this project, we realized that poor productivity is often caused by low energy rather than poor time management.
Many people already use calendars and to-do lists, but they still struggle to make time for hobbies, exercise, or rest because they don't recognize when their energy is depleted.
We also learned how AI can become a practical productivity assistant by helping users make better decisions instead of simply generating text.

Integration with Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook. Automatic energy estimation using wearable devices such as Apple Watch and Fitbit. AI-powered schedule optimization that automatically rearranges tasks based on predicted energy levels. Personalized insights to identify burnout patterns and recommend healthier routines. Team mode for helping managers schedule meetings during employees' peak energy periods. Mobile applications for iOS and Android with real-time notifications and energy check-ins.
