Inspiration
I was inspired by the old Legend of Zelda games and a bit by the Diablo game series with their map generation and inventory design.
What it does
Out project is a 2D dungeon crawler game. It will hopefully give people a fun experience and something to look forward to in the future.
How we built it
We used the Godot game engine, designed our sprites in the Libresprite pixel art software, developed music in the furnace chiptune tracking software, managed tasks using Jira, stored designs in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Merging our code, faulty level generation, patching of our game scenes into one cohesive game. Getting sound effects on time, enemy ai and pathing working unexpectedly, restructuring of the item/inventory systems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Level tilemap generation, cutscenes, inventory system, boss battle and boss music, keybind screen, enemy state machines, tile room pattern saving and loading functionality to be placed in the map generation similar to placing puzzle pieces.
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of Godot, chiptune music development, and pixel art design.
What's next for ENDLESS
Next, we want more weapons and items in general, more enemies, more levels and music types to match them, and more environmental things that can change up the tide of battle. More development into the lore of the game is also a must, and ensuring a fun experience for replayability is also desired.
