Inspiration

EndCoin was inspired by the urgent need to address climate change, specifically the rising temperatures of our oceans. We recognized the power of financial incentives in driving behavior and wanted to create a cryptocurrency that could not only offer investment opportunities but also promote environmental stewardship.

What it does

EndCoin is a cryptocurrency whose emission rate and value are directly tied to ocean temperatures. As ocean temperatures rise, indicating a worsening environmental condition, the emission rate of EndCoin decreases, potentially increasing its scarcity and value. This system incentivizes investors and users to engage in and support activities that contribute to cooling the oceans and preserving marine life.

How we built it

We spent the majority of the hackathon focused on data ingest and ensuring we had a strong data pipeline from multiple reputable sources. We aim to expand on this to ensure we have data from each continent to ensure fairness across states. We are also investigating a decentralised sensor network to make the whole end to end pipe on-chain. Off the back of the idea, Andrew was invited to join the Web 3 Builders Alliance cohort to expand on his skillsets, and build out Endcoin as part of the capstone project, which is supported by a group of shit hot devs. Our project outline is located on Miro and will be continuously updated.

Challenges we ran into

We are looking to procure real time or near real time data from multiple sources over each continent in the world to ensure data cannot be manipulated by a single entity.

What's next for Endcoin - Short the End of the World

Looking forward, EndCoin plans to introduce features that allow users to "short" the token, essentially betting against environmental improvement. This could attract a different type of investor and add another layer of complexity to the market dynamics. We also plan to expand our partnerships with environmental organisations and explore ways to directly fund climate action initiatives through the EndCoin platform.
