Endangered Species Identifier

Inspiration

We were inspired by the alarming news of just how many animals have gone extinct in just the past decade so we want to spread awareness in being able to identify endangered animals.

What it does

It is a program that allows you to upload a picture of an animal and it will tell you if it is endangered or not.

How we built it

Using tensorflow and python we coded a machine learning tool that can take in a dataset of images and learns to detect which animal is which.

Challenges we ran into

The upload speed of the datasets took much longer than expected which means we couldn't upload as many animals as we wanted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to make a machine that can differentiate between two different pictures

What we learned

Tensorflow and machine learning in combination with linking the datasets to google cloud.

What's next for Endangered Species Identifier

We want to increase the datasets for the machine so it can recognize a larger variety of animals. First, we want to make sure it can recognize all the critically endangered species.
