Inspiration

We developed Encore, an AI-powered voice assistant for studying, as a team of three to make learning more interactive, accessible, and engaging. Traditional study methods can sometimes feel repetitive, and students need convenient ways to revise concepts and test their understanding. Our goal was to create a hands-free learning companion that lets students interact through voice, practice quizzes, and revise topics using flashcards.

What It Does

Encore is a voice-based study assistant designed to encourage active learning.

Voice Assistance: Interact with the assistant through voice for a convenient, hands-free study experience.
AI-Generated Quizzes: Test knowledge and reinforce understanding through interactive quizzes.
Flashcards: Review important concepts, definitions, and key points through flashcards for quick revision.

How We Built It

As a team of three, we worked together to develop Encore using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect the AI assistant with relevant tools and capabilities. We focused on creating a voice-first study experience that supports students during learning and revision.

Our project brings together voice interaction, AI-powered assistance, quizzes, and flashcards in one study companion. We collaborated to integrate these features into a cohesive experience that helps students review concepts and assess their understanding more effectively.

Challenges We Faced

One of our main challenges was designing an assistant that does more than simply answer questions. We wanted Encore to actively support learning through quizzes and flashcards while maintaining a natural voice-based interaction experience.

Integrating the different capabilities into one workflow also required careful planning and collaboration. We focused on making the experience intuitive and ensuring that the study features complemented one another.

What We Learned

Working on Encore as a team helped us understand how MCP can connect AI assistants with tools and how voice interfaces can make AI applications more interactive. We also gained experience in integrating AI-powered features, designing educational workflows, solving technical problems collaboratively, and turning an idea into a practical learning application.

What's Next for encore

We envision enhancing Encore with personalized study plans, progress tracking, adaptive quizzes, and recommendations based on each student's learning needs.
