Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project was the question of how to connect volunteers to event creators, both of who are equally passionate to help through environmental activism. We got inspiration from volunteering websites like VolunteerMatch and Engage.

How it works?

This website provides events for volunteers to attend according to location. Creators must fill out a contact form to manually describe the event they are hosting before it can get posted on the website. EnactGreen is a social website that is dedicated to helping volunteers find ecology-related initiatives in their area. On the one hand, interested volunteers can filter projects by region and find the ones that fulfill their interests. On the other hand, event creators can post their own initiatives in their area to recruit volunteers.

How we built it?

We built this website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. They form the front-end design. We used the platforms Qoom and Figma to work collaboratively in the back and front ends.

Challenges

The challenges that we ran into while completing this project were centered around the fact that we could not add as many features to our website to allow it to be more user-friendly. At first, we did not have a clear idea about the layout or functions of the website. After one extensive Discord session and working on the design collaboratively through Figma we agreed on the site's layout.

Accomplishments

This was the first time our group had been able to complete a computer science project on such a short time limit. This tested our abilities and helped us to find out what we are capable of.

What we learned

We learned how to design our minimum viable product during this weekend. As a team, we learned how to work together on a coding project with a common goal. We gained experience interpreting code and working with languages that are not of our expertise.

What's next for EnactGreen

We want to expand EnactGreen to other parts of the world by adding a Login and Sign Up page, where users can choose their region and if they are Volunteers or Creators. Additionally, our team wants to create a more social-oriented website, meaning that users could have a larger engagement with ecology projects and share their experiences with other users on the web.
