Inspiration

Almost 1 in every 3 women has experienced domestic abuse... that's approximately 35.6% of women!! The knowledge that there were women out there who are victims are domestic violence are out there inspired me to create a safe place for them and other gender minorities who are also victims of abuse.

What it does

Empowher is a website where users can access resources (such as articles and videos) as well as interactive features such as a quiz to help identify what abuse they could be going through, a template for filing a restraint order, and a feature to help find which state superior court is near them.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The results of the quiz since there is no fixed answer in the quiz section and the HTML image mapping for finding civil courts near the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of being able to create something that can potentially help others get out of a toxic relationship and help them receive the help that they need. This was a challenging but fun project to do.

What we learned

I learned how to make a cohesive website in a short amount of time as well as new coding skills such as image mapping, javascript, and some new CSS tools.

What's next for Empowher

Overall, making the website even more cohesive and minimal would be great. Something major would be to include more state superior courts (courts for each county in a state) in order to be extremely specific to the user and for them to have easy access.
