Inspiration

The main agenda behind creating this application was to encourage people to talk about the social issues they face in their daily lives. And making sure their voice is being heard. There are so many social issues apart from mental health and gender inequality. Thus making sure that most of the social issues are being addressed.

What it does

We as a comprehensive platform provide various communities for our users to join so that they can meet other users who have been or went through the same issues and how they dealt with it. Users can volunteer or join communities, and talk about the issues they are facing in their daily life. Is the issue very serious? We got it covered! EmpowerU’s social justice crowdsourcing section will address social injustice and discrimination faced by our beloved users by providing advocacy and support efforts.

How we built it

We started with the implementation of the basic functionality first which is the option for the creation of communities. We then started adding functions based on the communities by segregating the tasks and methods into different parts. We simultaneously focused on the basic layout that we will be requiring for the platform. Creation of events and participating as volunteers for the events had to be done sequentially as the volunteers were based on events. For our database, we are using AWS DynamoDB and using flask framework for most of the functionalities.

Challenges we ran into

The project turned out to have a steep learning curve for us as we did not have a lot of experience with full-stack development. Also, this being our first hackathon, it is a completely new experience for us. Working together as a team, pushing codes, and getting the schemas ready at times would not match the planned schedule. Overall this is a whole new challenge for us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully implementing a number of basic necessary functionalities. This being our very first group project together, the experience of getting work done together has been in itself a great accomplishment for us. Working together collaboratively and in sync helped us achieve a lot easily. It helped us build teamwork skills. It also helped us strengthen our programming skills as we faced a lot of new challenges.
