🔍 Inspiration We were inspired by the persistent inequalities that women face globally—especially in employment, education, and access to opportunities. Many talented and capable women are unable to progress simply because they lack the support systems or access points that others take for granted. Our goal with EmpowerNet is to make those opportunities more reachable by connecting women with job openings, training programs, and educational resources through active collaboration with companies and NGOs.
🧠 What We Learned Throughout this project, we gained a deeper understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities). We also learned how powerful partnerships with the right stakeholders—employers, educators, and support organizations—can create sustainable and scalable impact.
🛠️ How We Built It EmpowerNet was developed as a web-based platform. We designed a system where participating companies and NGOs can commit to reserving a percentage of their opportunities for women in need. The platform allows women to view and apply for jobs, training, or courses specifically set aside for them, while organizations can manage listings and track impact. We focused on simplicity, accessibility, and functionality to ensure the platform can serve communities effectively.
🚧 Challenges We Faced One of the main challenges was narrowing down our idea to something both impactful and feasible within the hackathon timeframe. We also had to carefully consider data privacy and how to ensure the platform remains inclusive without becoming too complex. Balancing technical development with social impact design was also a learning curve, but one that strengthened our teamwork and problem-solving skills.
