Inspiration
We are a group of engineers who likes to look at the data to spot the problem in life, and use tech to provide solution. We found the data that explicitly showed the existing social injustice, and we have the AI chat bot tech. We spotted this data and thought this is where this particular AI tech would shine.
Here's an overview of some of the major groups commonly affected by social injustices, based on global trends and reports up to my last update in December 2023:
- Racial and Ethnic Minorities Disproportionate Impact: In many countries, racial and ethnic minorities face systemic discrimination in areas like employment, education, healthcare, and within the justice system. For example, in the United States, Black individuals and other people of color often face higher rates of police brutality, incarceration, and economic disparities. Statistics: In the U.S., the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that, as of 2020, Black adults were incarcerated at nearly 5 times the rate of white adults.
- Women and Girls Global Inequality: Women and girls often face systemic barriers, including gender-based violence, unequal pay, restricted reproductive rights, and limited political representation. Statistics: According to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2022, the global gender gap has been closed by 68%, indicating that, on average, there is still a 32% gap to bridge across various dimensions of inequality.
- LGBTQ+ Community Discrimination and Violence: Members of the LGBTQ+ community are often subject to discrimination, social stigmatization, and even violence. Legal protections vary widely around the world, with some countries recognizing and protecting LGBTQ+ rights, while others criminalize same-sex relationships. Statistics: A report by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association (ILGA) noted that as of 2021, 69 UN member states still criminalized consensual same-sex sexual acts among adults.
- Indigenous Peoples Marginalization and Land Rights: Indigenous communities frequently face injustices related to the loss of their lands, denial of cultural rights, and lack of access to healthcare and education. Statistics: The World Bank estimates that there are over 370 million self-identified indigenous peoples in some 90 countries around the world, many of whom face systemic marginalization.
- Persons with Disabilities Accessibility and Discrimination: Individuals with disabilities often encounter significant barriers in society, from physical accessibility issues to employment discrimination and lack of adequate healthcare. Statistics: The World Health Organization reports that over 1 billion people, about 15% of the world's population, experience some form of disability. Persons with disabilities frequently face higher rates of poverty, lower employment rates, and barriers to accessing education.
- Refugees and Displaced Persons Forced Displacement: Conflicts, persecution, and environmental disasters have led to large populations being displaced, often facing precarious conditions in refugee camps or host countries. Statistics: According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), by mid-2023, the number of forcibly displaced people globally surpassed 100 million for the first time.
We are here to provide a communication line for them.
Total of 6 customized GPT agent bot for each group will provide valuable resources and guidances to them using familiar texting interfaces.
What it does
It is a chatbot. It is customized for each group of people who experiences social injustices.
How we built it
we will build it using voice-flow tools to manage, deploy and test our agent. It requires Python scripting and UI programming, preferably with react.
Challenges we ran into
User-stories, since we are targeting 6 different groups, getting that perfect prompt generation would take multiple testings and we are afraid we will run out of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to provide value to those experienced social injustices.
What we learned
We learned that any of us can be a value to those who experience social injustices.
What's next for EmpowerLine Chatbot
we will implement voice-to-voice feature for those with disabilities.
Built With
- javascript
