Inspiration
Our inspiration was to provide job opportunities to people who have a physical disability and have always struggled to find meaningful employment despite their qualifications and skills, Many often faced discrimination and obstacles in their job search so we believe our idea could help them to find a job
What it does
The webpage allows the user to browse the jobs posted by the companies, we have built it with a simple UI since it doesn't distract people with autism, we have included a text-to-speech option in our webpage for people with reading difficulties, and we have built an interactive virtual keyboard with image options to support people who cannot type the content they wish to convey also we have the dyslexic friendly font.
How we built it
We built in using spring framework with MySQL DB to store the job details and fetched the details using the get API calls and displayed the details using react as the frontend, we have used typescript for the interactive keyboard and text-to-speech conversion using the speech synthesis library
Challenges we ran into
The time limit was a big challenge for us, Integrating the built features was a challenge for us
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We found that we had came up with an interesting idea in the given period and are sure that we will spend more time on this idea to make it a complete webpage so that it could be helpful to a large number of people, We are happy about the features that we planned to make like the interactive keyboard, and also we came to know about the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and the impact that it could cause in their day to day life
What we learned
We learned about accessibility considerations and how to make the web application accessible to users with disabilities, we learnt about UX design principles and how to create a user-friendly and intuitive interface for the web application also learnt how to use web APIs, such as the Web Speech API, to integrate text-to-speech capabilities into the web application.
What's next for Empowering Differently Abled people
We plan to make it a complete website similar to LinkedIn for people with disabilities and to make sure that the features we make will be useful to a large community.
