Inspiration

  • We wanted to create a welcoming and safe community for underrepresented genders in tech who are interested in developing their skills and interests

What it does

  • empowerHer is a platform dedicated to mentorship for underrepresented genders in tech who are interested in developing their skills and interests
  • It matches and connects underrepresented genders in tech to variety of mentors based on their skills, interests and technical level

How we built it

  • The technologies we used to build empowerHer are HTML, CSS, Javascript and the framework we used is React.js.

Challenges we ran into

  • Most of the members of our team have zero experience with React. We are learning on the go while developing our app which made our progress a little slower than expected

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Although our progress was slow, we are very proud of the work we have done. We are very surprised that we are able to deliver pages that look similar to our Figma prototype.

What we learned

  • We learned a lot about React and how version control(git) works.

What's next for empowerHer

  • Gamification feature: to help motivate users and encourage them to engage with the platform more frequently
  • Accessibility: implement text-to-speech API
  • Finish implementation
