Inspiration

Being a girl, we all have menstruation and it is by nature. But having proper knowledge of using sanitary napkins and hygiene is overlooked many times. Young girls are required to be taught the use of sanitary napkins and the importance of cleanliness of the intimate regions.

One of the other major problems is poverty. The households that cannot afford sanitary napkins are at a high risk of infections. Women are always the easy victims. Lack of money and awareness brings a lot of trouble for them.

Periods are never discussed openly and it is considered to be taboo. All these things keep on building up and result in stress and anxiety in a girl's life. The lack of awareness makes us feel miserable sometimes. Therefore, it is very important to have a way to get the proper guidance and knowledge.

What it does

The AR models help in understanding the concepts clearly. It is scientifically proven that when we visualize things, we are able to understand them more clearly.

The vision is to spread awareness about the less talked subjects. We all know that periods are totally normal but even then sometimes, they become a reason of embarrassment for many of the girls. Young girls tend to be very shy and they fear to ask questions about the changes they are undergoing.

How I built it

We used the echoAR platform. We searched the AR models and uploaded them on the echoAR model so that we could view them in AR.

Challenges I ran into

We wanted to include many models like one for showing the correct way to use sanitary napkins, one for maintaining intimate hygiene, one to show the body changes during puberty, and many more. We searched for them but we were able to find a few only. We could not find all the models we wanted. Therefore, we decided to set it as future goals as we had time constraints.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are very happy that our project can help young girls and guide them properly. Lack of education is the main reason for girls due to which they don't discuss their problems. Once, they understand the cause and the fact that it is absolutely normal, then they can be comfortable sharing their problems and feelings.

What I learned

We learned Augmented Reality and the echoAR platform. We researched a lot on the topic and we found many things that need immediate attention. Girls are not inferior to males or otherwise but they have some special circumstances in their life where they need extra support and guidance.
