💡 Inspiration

  • We were inspired to create Empower to address the lack of financial resources and support for marginalized genders. 🌟🌈
  • It's not easy to be able to handle the bias/discrimination against marginalized genders
  • So we decided why not enable them to EMPOWER themselves via our platform to not only manage their personal finances but also gain extra financial literacy and have additional community engaging and supporting features 💗

🦾 What it does

Empower was made possible via the Capital One Nessie API, thanks to this, our platform is able to utilize it's power and create relevancy in our information!

UTILIZES THE CAPITAL ONE NESSIE API and all it's fields in the whole of the project.

Expense Tracker:

  • Empower's expense tracker, powered by the Capital One API (Nessie), helps users keep track of their spending in a smart and efficient way. It categorizes expenses based on the merchant, shows the frequency of purchases, and provides insights into the most frequent merchants.
  • Users can securely access their transaction history and account balances through the Capital One API integration. Our platform ensures real-time synchronization of financial data, enhancing the accuracy and convenience of expense tracking and budgeting. 💰🏦

EM-Vendors (Empower Vendors):

  • This feature connects users with vendors and brands that support their community. Users can discover local businesses from their own marginalized gender communities and make informed choices.
  • Through the Capital One API (Nessie) integration, users can securely access their account information and make purchases directly within the platform, supporting the community while managing their finances. 🛍️🏦

Grants:

  • Empower's grants feature allows users to pool money together for causes and initiatives that benefit their community.
  • Through the Capital One API (Nessie), users can securely contribute to the grant pool and manage their funds. The integration ensures transparency and security in the distribution and tracking of grants, fostering a stronger sense of community support. 🤝🏦

Milestones:

  • With the milestones feature, users can set materialistic goals and save money towards them. They can securely access their account information through the Capital One API (Nessie) integration and allocate funds towards their milestones.
  • This way, the users can save up for their goals without having to worry about categorizing the money mentally 🎯🏦

Loans:

  • Empower provides users with easy and hassle-free loan approvals.
  • Through the Capital One API (Nessie), users can securely access their financial information and apply for loans within the platform.
  • The integration ensures quick and efficient loan processing, with unbiased interest rates tailored to individual users' financial profiles. 💸🏦

Autopay:

  • The autopay feature in Empower simplifies bill payments and EMI contributions.
  • Through the Capital One API (Nessie), users can securely link their accounts, set up automatic payments for bills, and contribute to loan EMIs.
  • This integration ensures seamless and secure transaction processing, eliminating the hassle of manual bill payments. 📅🏦

Consumer Awareness:

  • Empower helps users become financially literate and stay informed about the best practices.
  • While providing important news and updates related to their community, Empower's integration with the Capital One API (Nessie) ensures that users have real-time access to their financial information.
  • Users can securely view their account details, balances, and transaction history, facilitating informed decision-making. 💡🏦

🔨 How we built it.

  • Extensively uses the Capital One API (Nessie) in the entirety of the project
  • The project relies on OpenAPI to generate client definitions for the project.

🏁 Challenges we ran into

  • The CapitalOne API has a relatively outdated version of open API schema, which made it difficult for the client generators to parse it.
  • We were having an extremely significant time crunch due to our busy college schedules and events, but despite starting late, we were able to push through 💪
  • One of the significant challenges we faced was designing an interface that strikes a balance between visual appeal and usability. We aimed to create an interface that is both attractive and intuitive for users. 🎭
  • We also had quite a lot of issues because of the API, but we were still however able to make it work by tweaking it 🔦

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We are immensely proud of creating Empower, a platform that specifically focuses on empowering marginalized genders in their financial lives. It is a significant accomplishment to provide tailored financial resources and support. 🌟💪
  • The incorporation of a diverse set of features that cater to the unique needs of marginalized genders is another achievement. We believe in fostering inclusivity and creating a platform that truly supports the community. 🙌
  • Despite having a time crunch, we were able to make a fully functional and meaningful project! We thought we wouldn't be able to make it considering the amount of time we had left ⌛

📝 What we learned

  • Developing Empower deepened our understanding of the importance of inclusivity and tailored financial resources. It highlighted the need for platforms that address the specific challenges faced by marginalized genders. 🌱🌍
  • We gained valuable insights into the financial struggles and aspirations of marginalized genders. This experience reinforced the significance of empathy and diversity in building impactful solutions. 🚀

🔮 What's next for Empower

  • We have exciting plans to further enhance Empower and make it an even more powerful tool for marginalized genders. Our roadmap includes expanding community-driven features, such as incorporating feedback mechanisms and creating more opportunities for engagement. We also aim to increase the range of vendors and brands available in EM-Vendors. Additionally, we plan to provide additional financial education resources to empower users with knowledge and skills. 📈🌟🎓
  • Our commitment is to continuously improve Empower and ensure it remains a catalyst for financial independence and prosperity for marginalized genders. We will actively listen to user feedback and work closely with the community to make Empower an even better platform. 🌈
