Inspiration

Tragedy strikes at the most unprecedented times, and it is never easy to lose one’s loved one, or to get out of toxic relationships and move on. Widowed, separated and divorced women often find it difficult to cope with the sudden loss. We wanted to help them get through these difficult times and become independent.

What it does

Our Website is specifically aimed towards women in distress, to help them with questions like "What next?", "Where do I go from here on?", "How do I cope with this colossal amount of stress?", "How do I take care of myself and my family now?" To answer these questions, we have services that help search jobs, seek therapy and a forum to discuss issues and share stories/experiences. Along with these, our website also provides some general yet lesser-known facts about female empowerment laws in India and women helpline numbers. We have taken four cities into consideration namely Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and have used real-time data.

How we built it

We began with doing some research and brainstorming ideas. After coming up with different ideas, we finalized this one. We built this website using languages and frameworks such as HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, MySQL and PHP.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even though we were not able to build everything that we planned for, we believe we completed most of it. It was a great experience for all of us and we believe that our idea will help the women of our society to become independent, restart their career and aim for their holistic development and well-being.

What we learned

As we were aiming for a lot of things for our website, it was very crucial that we made organised use of our time, we had to distribute our work properly and make sure that we completed all our work on time, and this was one of the very valuable lessons we learnt during this hackathon: Time Management.

What's next for AscentAgain

We wish to add a web-page where women can rent or purchase a house in their city. Along with this, aid on healthcare and financial investment will also be included. We also plan to add more coverage in terms of cities we have included till now.

I worked on the frontend part of Tidings and Jobs page. It was a fun experience to play with styles and colors and I learned a lot.

Prachi Randeria
I worked mainly on the backend programming for the website. I used MySQL and PHP to integrate with an SQL database along with sending and receiving data. I also helped with the designing of the login and signup pages.
It was a great learning experience.

Gayatri Patil
I worked on the front end of the “Home” page and “Therapy” page, focusing on the visual layout and the user interface design, in an attempt to combine the art of design with programming. I am glad to have worked on an idea that aims to make women independent and capable enough to sail through the tough times and empowers them to rise again and live their life to the fullest. This was an amazing opportunity to learn, explore and implement and I thank HackViolet for that!

Priyanka Hotchandani
I worked on the research part of the project, I gathered real-time data such as available jobs, therapists (both individual and organizations) and the data for tidings. I also worked on the Logo, Name and Tagline of the website and also the front-end part of the forum on our website. This was my first hackathon, and it was a really great experience for me!
