Inspiration
We were inspired from our teachers who had to spend parts of their class just to call out a number of names for attendance. This is definitely a herculean task for the teachers hence we decided to bring a change. This also really helps improve academics amongst kids as the attendance will be marks only to the ones attentive
What it does
This software aims on granting attendance only to the ones that are really attentive. A pretrained ai model is used to monitor students in the classroom with emotion and eye detection. this data can then be used to get an average attentiveness of students hence making it more efficient to mark attendance
How we built it
we used open cv module and deepface module models and with a series of simple to use codes, we were able to obtain both webcam and pre recorded video footages which was then scaled to grey scale and then analyzed using the deep face module.. this data is then taken and the most common emotion is displayed and the average of eye movement is too tracked to find kids that sleep
Challenges we ran into
we had problems with running the testing process on GPU, The testing hence had to be continued on CPU with some stutters, the reason was that new versions of tensorflow does not go In par with nvedia cuda hence we couldn't use our gpu to full potential we then had issues merging the front end and back end but few cups of coffee fixed it hehe we then
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we being first year learnt a lot more than we would've learn in that day of college.. we learnt to work with flask, script, HTML, CSS and python. and most importantly.. OPEN CV and Deepface
What we learned
we learnt to use HTML, CSS, python, opencv and deepface
What's next for Emoticon
we are going to develop it and integrate all these options intoa single app and then take it further and hunt for colleges who are ready to integrate it to their etlab with help of inbuilt cctv cameras as testing showed us amazing results even in low quality
