What it does
It's a fun little web app that takes in input from the user, uses an API to give a sentiment score, and utilizes that to append the appropriate emoji to the end of the text.
How we built it
We used React to build a web app that would display our project. Using a sentiment analysis API and connecting it to our web app, we were able to give input through the app. The given input would then produce a score and a magnitude, expressing the negativity or the positivity of the text and the magnitude of that negativity or positivity.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of hard time integrating the API's with our project. We wanted to use a speech to text API and a sentiment analysis API to pull our project together, but it was definitely not as easy as expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was our first real team participation in a hackathon. We learned alot and produced a sort of working product. I think we're really proud of that.
What we learned
It's not super easy to use API's :(
What's next for EmojiTalk
We wanted to make it so that we are able to give voice input to the app using a speech to text API. This way the input for the app would not be typed text, it would be voice commanded text.
