Inspiration
- π We wanted to create a simple yet engaging journaling app that feels more like a conversation than a diary entry.
- π π© πͺSo we starting creating Emoji Houdini (or "emojini"), a a mood recorder that makes journaling fun and visual!
- β¨ We aim to capture emotions in a quick and expressive way, letting users track their feelings over time through emojis embedded in a calendar!
What It Does
- π With emojini, users can journal in different ways: they can type their thoughts, snap a picture, or upload a photo of their handwritten notes to be converted to text.
- π Each journal entry is tagged with an emoji of the userβs choice, which adds a visual summary to their day on an interactive calendar.
- π«£ This helps create an emotional "map" over time, making it easy to reflect on past moods and experiences.
How We Built It
- π©βπ¨ The design phase started in Figma, where we sketched out user flows, components, and visual elements.
- π§βπ» For development, we started to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to bring the front-end to life, aiming for a smooth and intuitive user experience.
Challenges We Ran Into
- πΏ One of the biggest challenges was realizing our current tech stack might not be enough to bring our full vision to life, we would have to use other tech stacks like React and Node.
- π€ Also, we have three other projects for school with deadlines looming this Wednesday, so we really had to hustle.
Accomplishments Weβre Proud Of
- π₯° We're proud to have brought our initial concept to life, starting from brainstorming to the first design draft.
- π Creating a friendly and visually appealing user interface that brings journaling to life was an exciting accomplishment for our team.
What We Learned
- π Designing in Figma was a learning curve, but we picked up a lot from design workshops (special shoutout to the Design Club!).
- πͺ Although weβre not design experts yet, we feel more confident translating our ideas into prototypes and understanding how to iterate based on feedback!
Whatβs Next for emojini
π We plan to build out emojini into a fully developed app. This means integrating more advanced features like sentiment analysis, allowing deeper journaling insights, and creating a mobile-friendly interface for on-the-go entries!
