Inspiration Emojinary was inspired by the universal appeal of emoji communication and the fun of charades-style guessing games. The goal was to craft a lighthearted, bite-sized game leveraging Reddit’s social vibes and asynchronous playstyle to bring communities together around shared humor and pop culture references.

What it Does Emojinary posts daily emoji puzzles representing phrases, movies, memes, or idioms. Players guess the meaning by commenting, racing to be the fastest and most creative. Community votes surface the best guesses, and leaderboards reward top performers, fostering ongoing engagement and friendly competition.

How We Built It The game is built on the Reddit Developer Platform using Devvit Web for seamless in-feed play and interactive posts. Kiro was integrated to automate testing, deployment, and moderation workflows, improving development efficiency. React and TypeScript enabled a responsive, intuitive UI, while Redis handled real-time leaderboard and puzzle state management.

Challenges We Ran Into Ensuring puzzles were neither too obscure nor too obvious required balancing community feedback. Implementing an intuitive interface within Reddit’s constraints posed design challenges. Scaling asynchronous play and leaderboard updates smoothly while managing moderation and content quality demanded careful engineering.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of We successfully designed a polished, responsive game UX suitable for web and mobile Reddit feeds. Integrating Kiro significantly sped up our development cycles and content moderation processes. The game’s scalable asynchronous loop and social features embody Reddit’s unique community spirit.

What We Learned Building for Reddit requires focusing on bite-sized, immediately engaging loops that work independently of player count or time zones. Using Kiro transformed our approach to automation, boosting productivity and quality assurance. Community-driven content greatly enhances replayability and relevance.

What's Next for Emojinary: Charades for Reddit We plan to expand puzzle themes seasonally, introduce hint tokens, and enhance social features like friend challenges and caption remixes. Further refinement of UI accessibility and moderation automation via Kiro will continue. Ultimately, we aim to deepen community participation while exploring monetization possibilities through Reddit Developer Funds.
