Inspiration
Emojinary (Emoji + Pictionary) was a game idea I had for several years but couldn’t build due to lack of time—until I discovered Bolt. I tested the game idea using phones and simple writing tools and saw a lot of potential and now I have brought my game to life by prompting my out of it.
What it does
Emojinary is a game where Pictionary meets Wordle!. It is a fun daily emoji trivia game where players try to figure out words, phrases, or titles based on emoji combinations.
How we built it
I started by writing a detailed project plan for bolt then iterated back and forth for all features. Sometimes I had to take the code to my computer and fix it manually but it was only when bolt gets stuck or is looping
Challenges we ran into
Connecting database other than supabase library is not possible which made it a bit challenging to work as I would have preferred to use Drizzle-orm or something like that to insure the schema is good.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The fact that I was able to build a full fledged game with global leaderboard, easy authentication and over all fun game.
What we learned
Building Emojinary taught me the importance of persistence and adapting to new tools—like Bolt—that made development accessible without grinding code daily. Most importantly, I discovered that simple ideas, when well-executed, can create meaningful and joyful experiences for players.
What's next for Emojinary.app
I plan to add few more features and release it as a mobile and web game
