Inspiration

The game is inspired by the simplicity and accessibility of the games currently available on Reddit. I wanted to create something that wouldn’t require users to have knowledge in a specific domain. And who isn’t intrigued by riddles?

What it does

The main game loop is straightforward, users create emoji-based riddles to earn points, while others try to solve them using the emojis and the provided category as clues.

How we built it

As a non-professional programmer, I relied heavily on Devvit documentation and existing showcases for inspiration. I decided to design the game with a structure similar to Pixelary, as it offered an approachable and user-friendly style.

Challenges we ran into

  • UI/UX Design: Ensuring that the interface is intuitive and users feel comfortable navigating the game was a significant challenge.
  • Level Curve: Balancing the leveling system to encourage users without making it too easy was tricky and remains a work in progress.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

I’m proud of simply participating in this project and building something alongside the community. It has been an incredibly fun experience.

What we learned

TypeScript ,I learned a lot about game development, specifically the importance of designing a clear game loop. Understanding how small design choices influence user sentiment was a valuable lesson.

What’s next for Emoji Riddle

While the game already includes features like leaderboards and leveling, there’s room for more customization and enhancements. Subreddit owners can currently customize which riddle categories are allowed, but I aim to expand on this.

Planned Features:

  • Add hints to help users solve riddles.
  • Introduce difficulty tags such as Easy, Medium, and Hard for riddles.
  • Explore different riddle formats, such as multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
  • Integrate subreddit-specific emojis for an even more personalized experience.
